SMEs account for 90% of the business structure in the world and represent 70% of the world's employment. According to a recent OECD report, companies in Spain with up to 250 employees represent more than 60% of the economy's value and nearly 99% of our business network. Due to their strategic significance and to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day every April 26, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has decided to focus this year on these "silent heroes" of the economy.

Under the slogan "Intellectual Property and SMEs: From the Idea to the Market", WIPO joins the objective of transmitting to these types of companies how a good strategy for the protection of their intangible assets contributes to their growth, promotes their internationalization and strengthens their resilience in complex economic situations such as the one currently being faced.

Based on our firm commitment as a company with innovation in its DNA, PONS IP wishes to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day by sharing the inside story of one of the most successful business cases in Spain that emerged during the pandemic.

Through the testimonials of José María Lagarón, researcher at CSIC-IATA and Founder of BIOINICA, Beatriz Lara and Javier Etxabefrom the CSIC Knowledge Transfer Deputy Vice-Presidency, this video presents the success story of this Valencian spinoff that reacted with extreme speed and intelligence in the launch of PROVEIL®BIOMASK, the first nanofiber mask with innovative features. As a result of its high level of innovation, a smart commitment to asset management through intellectual property and an organized growth strategy, today, its masks to protect us from COVID-19 are one of the most demanded and valued in the market, making BIOINICIA a leading benchmark in this industry.

Especially today, on World Intellectual Property Day, BIOINICIA is a prime example of the value that IP has for innovation.

Happy World IP Day!
