Isabel Cortés, Director of Institutional Relations and Projects at PONS IP, has been recently appointed Chair of the Harmonization of Trademark Law and Practice Committee at the International Trademark Association (INTA). Today, this non-profit association has become a reference in the sector and represents more than 6,400 organisations from 81 countries and 36,000 professionals, bringing together leading professionals from the trademark and intellectual property sector.
Isabel Cortés goes from holding the position of vice-chair to chair of the committee, thus becoming one of the three Spanish representatives of the association and the only representative of Spanish origin to hold the position of Chair of one of the 19 committees. Her team will include George-Mihai Irimescu as Vice-Chair and Rafael Garutti and Daniel Anthony as the Subcommittee Chairs.
Some of the tasks of the Committee that Isabel Cortés now leads includes the evaluation of efforts made at the national, regional and international level through treaties, trade agreements, special conventions and other non-binding instruments related to trademark law and practice. Furthermore, the Committee proposes policy recommendations to the Board and it is responsible for drafting proposals and treaties and advocating the association’s policy positions before relevant government officials.
Isabel Cortés sees this move from vice-chair to chair as a responsibility in which she is “looking forward to immediately contributing to the committee’s work”.
